Self reflection on progress in this coarse

When I enroll myself for this course I thought it will only be a light refreshing coarse but I was shocked to see how much work went into it .Coming from a big school with a lot of social problems ,a lot of fundraising very active and involve in community activities , being part of senior management really took a lot out of me . Many times I sit in the class trying to grasp what ever came my way, I battled tremendously with this course .I had no time to sit at school on a computer always in meetings and as a foundation phase educator you can not leave your learners unattended.The only time I really had was a Sunday mornings . My family time really suffered but enough about that .For some reason I hated to work on a computer and did not like to do research on the Internet because I could not find the information that I was looking for .This somehow has change and I believe and know that I have grown with this course . The knowledge that I can in the ICT application I share at our school and they seems to be amazed at the techniques and skills that I have learn .I even empower my own kids with these ICT skills.Blogging became my favourite although I wanted to run away at first. I will never ever take it for granted that a site is authentic .I learned a good lesson to think critically about web information.Now knowing what to do I feel a bit sad to think it is all coming to the end.I am now self motivated to learn and to explore new avenues.All though I battled with this course and had sleepless nights." No more scare for the computer"To everyone in the class we came along way .We battle it out, We support one another we laughed and shad some tears lost a friend and friends but Sandy taught us how to blog so we can keep contact. Thank you Sandy for empowering us.

Reflextion on the course

This course help me tremendously about Web literacy and developed my critical thinking skills.
It was practical full off exercise ,tips handout and stories drawn from my class friends and lecture in class. I explore new concepts as they were introduced by Sandy.Many times I was frustrated because I was to slow and time was against me.
Web evaluation and test
When content was presented in class it made you think more deeply .I have learn a good lesson to think critically about web information as it is a an essential skill for teachers and students.I realise helping students developed research and critical thinking skill on the web can be a daunting task . So much information is available and so many help full tools ,that sometimes knowing how to begin can be overwhelming for both student and teacher as it was for me
Essay-Writing
The honest truth about this is -Time wasting -We could have spend more time on Web evaluating skills .The topics was fantastic and we could have used the research topics and evaluate it
Blogging
When I was exposed to blogging for the first time ,I stood up and walked out of the room thinking,no way . I am not doing it.Getting home that night and sharing it with my children and four month later I am convinced that blogging is an educational tool. I am in the process of creating a blogger for our school library.

On Thursday we got our results back from Sandy.I expected the worst but it was OK.Thank you for showing me how to evaluate a site Sandy. I will never make the same stupid mistakes again.I have learned a lot of new skills over the past weeks and will surely make use of it.Today I practise how to open a wiki . web evaluation

On Thursday 2 September 2010 we had to do a web evaluation of 2 sites .I was sweating with it .I knew to do a web evaluation I had to look for Authority,Accuracy,Currency,Web Design and Relevancy -but I did not know how to apply it . I felt like a fool after discussing it with Sandy . This was a sad experience for me and a good lesson that I have learn not to be afraid of the computer.For the future I will do do check references.By the way I love the new computers in the library lab . It work much faster than the other computers. Better luck next time.

On Thursday Sandy introduce us to school library Wiki's .This is a very good tool to do group work.It is the first time that I heard about it . We will be able to share our knowledge and contribute to a discussion simple and quickly.My family is also so excited about the new knowledge that I gain every week .The little one also started her blogger.I think the days are to short to fit everything in .I love the creative side of the blogger. On Thursday we had to join a discussion group. The Internet was a bit problematic at the campus and I could not subscribe .Friday morning when I got to school I went to sit on the Internet and subscribe. I immediately got a answer that I was successful

internet filtering

Internet filtering is a good thing but it can cause over blocking .Over-blocking can filter out very important and acceptable material such as health related information. It is the parents duty to speak to their children about bad sites and to keep away from it. Today was our first day of fast Ramadaan Mubarak to all my Muslim friends. On Wednesday I had a appointment with Letticia at UWC library ,the link Sandy gave us.
Very tired ,half hearted I began my journey into the library. In my mind I was thinking of Edulis Library unfriendly staff that can never help and when we come out there we more frustrated.Dragging my tired body up to level 8 a friendly lady; energetic came to my rescue.-Leticia- it was almost as she can sniff I am going to turn around and find my own way as usual.
I think I strike gold .She was help full .and brush up my researching skills . To all my ACE librarian friends please mine into this gold mine .You might strike it rich. O Allah give me strength today I am having the MFT at our school Market day and I must still attend classes until 18H30
